In this video, I talk about making your startup or small business more international. This video is relevant for people that are learning about how to do international business. I talk about international business strategies, and as well as international business entry modes. International business strategies concern how a company goes from localized domestic market to a more geographically dispersed market. It is important to think about as the vast majority he of the world’s market is outside of any one particular country. It is also important because you can learn a lot from different cultures, and improve your company’s strategy and product offerings.
In particular, I talk about the international business strategies to either generalize and create economies of scale across your operations, versus creating a more localized business in each geographic region.
It is also important to think about the various entry modes. Traditional international business theory suggest that firms go from more psychologically close countries and progress to more psychologically distant countries. It also suggest that you go from exporting two more resource intensive entry modes, such as doing joint ventures. However, there are many firms that are ‘born global’ that simply sell their products and services around the world because of advances to information computing technologies.
My recommendation would be for you to start small and focus on what you know, and if a larger audience forms from other areas, and then you can start branching out from there.
