Proofreading Site: Finding Proofreading Jobs And Helping Writers ( Building An Editing App ) Video
In this video, I talk about creating a proofreading site that connects writers to proofreaders. The video is useful for those looking for a proofreader or for those who need help with feedback on their writing. The goal of the proofreading site was to scratch my itch from several directions. I noticed that it is very difficult for me to find reliable proofreaders and editors for my own work as an academic, and I have to often use my own personal networks to find great academic proofreaders for my papers or articles. I was always told to get my work edited but I didn’t know where to turn too. There was no real good legitimate proofreading site that I could turn too.
Being an engineer and a business professor, I thought it would be really nice to create a platform to help other people that have a similar problem. I repeatedly came across this problem with my academic friends.
I also thought that there was a lot of amazing editors and proofreaders that might join a proofreading site like this one. After all, we train people amazingly well in the liberal arts, the humanities, and the social sciences; and yet they often find it difficult to get jobs. How is it that we can train people in writing and yet we don’t fully exploit their capabilities? I thought this lack of a writing tool was a curious thing.
I sought out to develop the proofreading site by finding developers, and continuing to push this site through, even when things didn’t work out as planned. For example, it was really difficult to find developers locally so then I had to find outsourced developers. These outsourcers were sometimes problematic with developing the proofreading site. Finding traffic is also difficult, so I have to do these YouTube videos to get the word out to find people. All in all though, I’m extremely happy and privileged to be able to continue to push this site out.
I thought that this site would be a really cool proofreading site to use for writers and researchers in the future. I’m excited to be able to work with others to push this proofreading site out, and sort of use this as a type of citizen science to help research. I know that this is a very long-term goal to complete, and I’m happy to continue to push out this proofreading site so that writers and others like me I can get excellent proofreading / editing help, and others can find proofreading jobs.
