주변국에 비해 넉넉지 않은 경제 사정에도 불구하고 세계 수위권의 육군력과 10위권에 드는 해, 공군을 운용하고 있다. 군사력은 이스라엘군의 수준 이상으로 발전했다. 좁은 영토에 비해 이렇게 많은 군대를 보유한 국가는 드물다. 유럽 국가들이 가진 군대의 몇십배 규모를 보유하고 있다는 점에서, 한국이 군사력 부분에서 얼마나 강력한 국가인지 알수 있다. 그러나 이는 역설적으로 주변 3강에 둘러싸인 불안한 동북아 국가, 현존하는 세계 유일의 분단국가라는 오명을 안고있어 군축을 하지 못하고 있는 한국의 현실을 반증하기도 한다. 어찌됐든간에 한국의 강력한 군사력은 UAE에 군사기술을 전수하고 여러 국가에 무기를 수출하는 등 대한민국의 국가 이미지를 높이고 국력을 신장시키는데 기여하고 있는 것은 사실이다.
