2014년 10월 미니앨범 [보석]을 시작으로 [나의 노래], [사랑 그리고 하나], [답정너], 대다수 피쳐링 참여와 공연 등으로 활동해왔던 싱어송라이터 김명기.
이제는 솔로활동이 아닌 10년이상의 세월동안 의지가 되어준 베이시스트 김철순, 기타리스트 안희준과 함께 본인의 이름을 내건 밴드 ‘명기’로 새로운 도약을 시작했다.
그가 직접 작사, 작곡하고 멤버들과 함께 편곡, 레코딩 한 앨범 [beside].
사전적 의미로는 ‘-의 옆(곁)에’ 라는 뜻을 갖고 있고, 꿈과 현실이란 갈림길 앞에서 고민하고 힘들어했던 자신과 또는 비슷한 상황을 겪고 있을 누군가에게 이루고자 하는, 이루고자 했던 꿈을 ’내가 항상 곁에 있을게, 포기하지마.’ 라는 응원의 메세지를 담았다고 한다.
앨범커버는 시작을 알리는 김명기의 이름이자 밴드의 이름.
한자 ‘明(밝을 명), 基(터 기)’의 뜻을 풀어 해, 달 그리고 땅을 포인트 삼아 음악으로 표현되는 색감과 느낌이 잘 표현되고 드러날 수 있도록 디자이너 이민우가 제작하였고,
국내 대표 워십팀 예수전도단의 뮤직디렉터, 뿐만 아니라 사운드엔지니어 등으로 폭넓은 활동을 하고 있는
엔지니어 이규헌이 믹스를 담당하였다.
또한 주목할점은 세계적인 아티스트들과 레코딩, 믹스, 마스터링 작업을 하고 있는 영국 [abbey road studio]에서 'beatles', 'deep purple' remaster album, 'sex pistols', 'iron maiden', 'mika' 등의 앨범 마스터링을 담당한
엔지니어 sean magee와 함께 진정성 있는 Rock사운드를 구축하여 완성도를 더욱 높혔다.
어릴적부터 일기처럼 또는 자서전처럼 써내려간 음악들..
이번 앨범발매를 시작으로 왕성한 활동을 계획하고, 기획하고 있는 밴드 [명기].
