πŸ”΄ After Effects CC Overlay TRANSPARENT Render Tutorial (Small File Sizes!) [#DailyTut] Video

So you wanna render Transparent Overlay videos in After Effects? Transparent (RGB+Alpha) Renders are too big (several GIGABYTES or more!!) - In today's daily tutorial, let's fix that with some good ol' fashioned compression without destroying the alpha channel, eh?

Why are RGB+Alpha AVI Renders in After Effects CC 2014+ so large in file size? This is a question I hear people asking me ALL THE TIME. There's a simple explanation though: When you render with RGB and add a transparent Alpha channel to the mix, that adds a whole other bit of information per pixel. Instead of RGB (3 bits of information), it then becomes RGBA (4 bits of information) with a 0-255 range of values. Adding one more value may not seem like a reason for files to jump from mere megabytes to sheer GIGABYTES in size, however, when you consider adding 255 new permutations of value combinations per pixel for over 1 million pixels per frame - things start to make sense a bit more.

So how do we fix that? Compression! Like any other video in life, these formats are compressible- just not in the most conventional way. Instead of compressing these transparent AVIs into a MP4 container or similar, we need to compress in a manner that is reversible. Otherwise the alpha channel will be destroyed upon compression. This can be achieved by using standard file compression methods such as .ZIP, .RAR, or .7z. These compression algorithms are reversible and the original RGB+Alpha videos can be extracted back to normal after compression and transferring to clients/etc.

Can you render transparent video without AVI? or- Can you render transparent video using another format? Well, the other method is using a .MOV instead of a .AVI. The key difference between the two is that .MOVs are compressible in format, while .AVI can only be lossless while rendering with a transparent alpha channel. This method requires you to have Quicktime installed from Apple's website. You can just google, "QuickTime download Apple" to find that.

Why Transparent Renders (AVI) are HUGE & My Compression Trick

About the Site 🌐

This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. πŸŽ₯

Origins of the Idea 🌱

The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. 🧠

Challenges Faced πŸ€”

Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.

Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. πŸ”

Creating Truly Random Links πŸ› οΈ

The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.

About YouTube πŸ“Ί

YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. 🌟

Content and Users 🎡

Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.

While most content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations like CBS and the BBC also contribute. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users enjoy additional privileges such as uploading unlimited videos and adding comments.

Monetization and Impact πŸ€‘

YouTube and creators earn revenue through Google AdSense, with most videos free to view. Premium channels and subscription services like YouTube Music and YouTube Premium offer ad-free streaming.

As of February 2017, over 400 hours of content were uploaded to YouTube every minute, with the site ranking as the second-most popular globally. By May 2019, this figure exceeded 500 hours per minute. πŸ“ˆ
