Just to clarify why Keyes is wrong, poorly spoken and a bad debater...
To be well-spoken, and a good communicator, you should say EVERYTHING you need to say to get your point across, but NOTHING MORE. To be a good debater, you should focus directly on the issue, clearly dismantle your opponent's statements and establish your points, and AVOID pissing off the audience or the moderator.
Keyes did the opposite of that. He said much, much more then he needed, with unnecessary vocabulary words, to the point that everyone's eyes glazed over and they got irritated with him.
His first point is not complicated. Marriage was created to accompany procreation, which a man and a woman can do in theory. When two people can't procreate, there's no point in allowing them to marry.
That's it. That's his point. It shoudn't have taken him more then 10 seconds. And everyone would've understood him and been able to respond. Instead, he said way too much, confused people, and pissed off the crowd and the moderator who is supposed to be impartial.
On top of that, both of his points are EXTREMELY weak.
1. A man and a woman who can't have children (if they're too old or whatever) are still allowed to marry. So we allowed marriage to be a non-baby-having institution a long time ago. Thus, there's no reason why we can't allow homosexual couples to marry also.
2. Who's to say that homosexual couple can't then adopt a child? Then it becomes a matter of creating a stable household for children, just like heterosexual marriage.
3. His last point, about incest, is ridiculous. It argues for allowing children to know who their biological parents are, not for stopping homosexual couples from having children.
Alan Keyes is a moron with weak points. There is basically NO logical reason not to allow homosexual couples to marry, and no amount of overspeaking will change that.
