How do I know if a trading strategy is truly profitable or just lucky? If you have a strategy how do you know if its profitable or not? You have to say to yourself. Think of this differently; at any point a strategy might stop working. My strategy is random but it is performing very well. Or my strategy is good but it could still stop performing right this second. and I've had multiple times so you have to know when to back off. I need to be very careful of drawdowns playing defensively. Obviously you don't want a random strategy, you want a strategy that has a positive expectancy because then you'll going to make more on the trades that go your way versus the trades that go against you. But always have a plan of action for when the trading strategy stops working. The longer you execute your strategy, the better it is for you as you'll then know whether the strategy is truly profitable.
