Hustle - Your Campus On Demand (Dropping on the App Store 9/14/19) Video

hustleios.com

It's no secret that college students are broke and are always looking for a "side-hustle" to supplement their income. My startup is a solution to help college students (and eventually anyone part of a private community) earn extra money on their own time. As a college student, you have antiquated but guaranteed ways to generate consistent income: Get a low-skill job working hours that are boring, underpaid, and interfere with social & academic priorities.

Hustle is pioneering a mobile application that serves as a student-only (@edu-verified), "on-demand" marketplace for any easy one-off task. It's going to turn every college student in the world into an on-campus entrepreneur, and provide them with twice the income they would make while working those low-skill jobs. At the same time, it's going to benefit the entire student-body through time-saving, and instant gratification.

How does it work? Students can post "needs" that are easily categorized in the app to sync with other student "hustlers" that have identified services they are willing to perform. The requestor of the service sets a fee, and interested students can hustle that on-demand. After joining, you can hustle or request whenever you want!

There are 4 types of "needs": Meet & Sell, Meet & Service, Shop & Deliver, and Pickup & Deliver. Services like laundry, on-campus food delivery, any item sale, house-keeping, and any other need you could dream up (it's user defined) can be posted. Overtime, each user develops a community rating.

The app connects 2 students together instantly. How? Each new "Need-Post" not only goes to a campus feed, but notifies students who've said they'd hustle that kind of "need" in their user profile. Each post stays available "first-come-first serve" for only 5 minutes before it expires! Trending "Needs" that are dynamic to each campus are encouraged to users.

This is not another Craigslist or Facebook Page (traditional marketplaces) where you upload a post, wait hours to days if you find someone interested, then go through the exhaustive process of figuring out where to go, to meet, and how to pay. On Hustle, after being connected with a hustler in seconds, just press a couple buttons, and that's it; it's as streamlined as using Uber with dead-simple UI, location-tracking, and a secure payment gateway. Like Venmo, all users have an earnings balance so students can transfer funds.

About the Site 🌐

This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. πŸŽ₯

Origins of the Idea 🌱

The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. 🧠

Challenges Faced πŸ€”

Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.

Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. πŸ”

Creating Truly Random Links πŸ› οΈ

The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.

About YouTube πŸ“Ί

YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. 🌟

Content and Users 🎡

Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.

While most content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations like CBS and the BBC also contribute. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users enjoy additional privileges such as uploading unlimited videos and adding comments.

Monetization and Impact πŸ€‘

YouTube and creators earn revenue through Google AdSense, with most videos free to view. Premium channels and subscription services like YouTube Music and YouTube Premium offer ad-free streaming.

As of February 2017, over 400 hours of content were uploaded to YouTube every minute, with the site ranking as the second-most popular globally. By May 2019, this figure exceeded 500 hours per minute. πŸ“ˆ
